I start strong, practise for a week or two, and then life gets busy and I drop it completely. Then I feel guilty and do not start again for months. How do I actually keep it going?

This is perhaps the most common thing we hear — so first, know that you are in good company, and that the pattern is not a flaw in you.

The usual assumption is that we need more discipline, or more time. But the real fix is almost the opposite: make it smaller. Much smaller. So small it feels almost silly to skip.

Instead of twenty minutes, begin with three. Instead of a perfect morning routine, one conscious breath before you pick up your phone. The point of a small practice is not that three minutes transforms you — it is that three minutes survives a busy week. An unbroken thread of something tiny is worth far more than an ambitious practice you keep abandoning.

And when you do miss a day, or a week, drop the guilt entirely. Guilt is not motivation; it is just another weight. The practice is always one breath away, and it does not hold your absence against you. You simply begin again — not from the start, but from where you are.

Keep it small, keep it kind, and let it be easy to return to. That is how a practice lasts a lifetime.

Presence is where we begin.
